Dallas Air America at Netroots

We spent 4 great days in Austin at the Netroots Nation convention. Over 2,000 bloggers and online activists together for weekend.

We of course talked about and talked up Progressive talk radio. We told folks about our own Ration Radio 1360 am , Nova M, Air America, the Nonstop Radio conference and our favorite talker friends Errington Thompson from Asheville and Sam Seder from Air America.

Thanks to both of them for donating great stuff to give away to fans.

We also organzed a fan meetup for local fans of Sam and helped Sam sell dvds of A Bad Situationist at the screening and throughout the weekend at the booth .

I am grateful to David Clifton (and all the gang at Rational radio) and especially Anita and Sheldon Drobny for not giving up on North Texas!

I appreciate those who credit me in anyway for helping make this happen, mostly I acted as a conduit to get the right people connected. That happened because we all stayed connected, all of you helped make this happen and you will play a vital role in the road ahead.

We know will need to support this station to keep it. They will need local advertisers. Please be thinking of progressive owned businesses that might buy advertising time and let me know! We get a commission for our group if we find an advertiser.

Randi Rhodes Leaving Air America Network

The radio host Randi Rhodes has left Air America, the progressive radio outlet said Thursday, ending her national syndicated show and leaving the network with a three-hour hole in its afternoon schedule.
Ms. Rhodes, the host of the “The Randi Rhodes Show” will join KKGN, the Air America affiliate in San Francisco.
She was suspended by Air America a week ago after a video of her making disparaging remarks about the Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton surfaced on YouTube. Ms. Rhodes likened Mrs. Clinton to a prostitute at an event sponsored by KKGN on March 22.
The program director of KKGN, John Scott, said in an announcement on the station’s Web site that Ms. Rhodes would come on board on April 14.
In a statement, the chairman of Air America, Charlie Kireker, and the president Mark J. Green said Ms. Rhodes had chosen to leave.
Ms. Rhodes was the host from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Air America, and the network did not immediately announced a successor.
“We will soon announce exciting new talent and programming that will accelerate Air America’s growth in the future,” Mr. Kireker and Mr. Green stated.
A Sunday host, Sam Seder, who previously led a morning show for the radio network, is under consideration, according to an Air America employee who asked not to be identified.
Ms. Rhodes joined Air America when the network began in 2004. She did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company, which has struggled to gain distribution, is majority owned by the real estate investor Stephen L. Green and his brother Mark.

Air America Radio picks up KXEB, but will left-leaning listeners be able to hear?

Democrats, long drowned out in Dallas by conservative radio hosts, are finding their voice.
But some may strain to hear it.
Air America Radio, the left-leaning network, is taking on Texas.
Its round-the-clock political talk will hit the air Monday in Austin and debut March 21 in the Dallas area, replacing the Spanish-language programming on KXEB-AM (910). Air America is already on in Corpus Christi.
In North Texas, Air America's success could be limited by the reach of the low-wattage station. Static nearly drowns out KXEB in some areas, but officials at Border Media Partners, the station's owners, said they were trying to strengthen the signal.
Air America executives, who called the expansion in Texas the high point for the network, said Mr. Franken will find an audience, even in President Bush's home state.
"We're providing an alternative for a minority that feels alienated," CEO Danny Goldberg said.
Comedian-turned-commentator Al Franken provides the star power for the network, which has signed up 51 stations in less than a year. In North Texas, his afternoon show will battle conservatives Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly -- a competition Mr. Franken relishes.
"We don't lie. Rush lies all the time. ... He's ridiculous on so many levels," said Mr. Franken, who will be in Austin for his first show on KOKE-AM (1600).Others aren't convinced that listeners will turn the radio dial to the left.
"You're in Bush country, you're a liberal, and you have a bad signal. That's a lot going against you," said Jeff Hillery, program director for KLIF-AM (570).
